This reading year has been full of surprises, and this month’s pick is no different. Ninth House is a mix of genres, pulling from fiction, mystery, and fantasy to bring us Alex Stern and the secret societies of Yale. In a world of ghosts and dangerous magic, Alex is a part of Lethe, a society dedicated to overseeing magic rituals and the people who perform them. When the sudden disappearance of her mentor and death of a town local coincide, Alex seems to be the only person concerned with the deeper mysteries surrounding the campus. It’s VERY important to note that this book contains sensitive content and I’m glad that I looked up the (non spoiler) trigger warnings beforehand. However, this book was the perfect read as autumn begins to set in. A mix of dark academia and supernatural mystery, Ninth House sets the tone for a spooky fall — grab a blanket, mug of tea, light some candles and watch Alex Stern hunt for answers on Yale’s campus.
